Housing Protesters In New Orleans

The violent protesters scuffle in New Orleans intended to disrupt the City Council meeting as council prepares to unanimously vote on demolition of buildings including housing units which were damaged by Hurricane Katrina while demolition would open racial, class division and developers can take advantage of tax credits and build new mixed-income neighbourhoods. Police used pepper spray and stun guns as protesters tried to force their way into the iron gate at City Hall.

One woman was sprayed and dragged from the gates. Emergency workers took her away on a stretcher. Protesters are treated after New Orleans police officers subdued protesters.
