Total Lunar Eclipse@February 20, 2008

As reported, this is the timelapse view for the total lunar eclipse. Wow, cool!

From NASA:

A total eclipse of the Moon occurs during the night of Wednesday, February 20/21, 2008. The entire event is visible from South America and most of North America (on Feb. 20) as well as Western Europe, Africa, and western Asia (on Feb. 21). During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.

An eclipse of the Moon can only take place at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of Earth's shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped parts, one nested inside the other. The outer shadow or penumbra is a zone where Earth blocks some (but not all) of the Sun's rays. In contrast, the inner shadow or umbra is a region where Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

If only part of the Moon passes through the umbra, a partial eclipse is seen. However, if the entire Moon passes through the umbral shadow, then a total eclipse of the Moon occurs.

Total Lunar Eclipse On Feb. 20, 2008; Don't Miss It For Another Three Years

Hey hey hey!! Check this out. There will be a total lunar eclipse by this Wednesday evening, February 20th 2008. The full Moon over the Americas will turn a delightful shade of red or turquoise perhaps. Click on the links to view labels for other time zones: GMT, AST, EST, CST, MST, PST, Alaska, Hawaii.

The next total lunar eclipse will be on Dec. 2010. So, do not miss such a good date to view the natural phenomenon.

**Do you know? A lunar eclipse happens when the Moon passes through the shadow of Earth. The shadow of the earth is red colour! That's why we could see the slightly red Moon during eclipse occurrance.

Odds Of Asteroid Hitting Mars Reduced

The latest update has saddened the scientists as the chances of an asteroid hitting the Mars has become less likely. The asteroid, dubbed 2007 WD5, was discovered in late November by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona.

The approaching chances drop to 2.5% compared to 4% as lately released on late December. Now the scientists should feel sad due to the reduced possibility to view the cosmic collision on jan 30.

Astronomers believe the most likely victim of the death ray is another galaxy which is ten trillion kilometres far away from the Earth. Thus, the Earth is almost certainly safe.
