New Zealand powerful earthquake at 6.8 in city of Gisborne has flattened buidlings and cause widespread damage leaving a few of tremor throughout much of New Zealand South Island. A local emergency was declared and the centre of the city of 42,000 people was cordoned off by police, who said two buildings had collapsed and others were badly damaged. One woman was dead in the disaster and no other major injuries has been reported.
