Warning Of Climate Change; Ice Shelf Is Breaking Away To Open Ocean

What is the next plan/agenda after earth hour 2009 in order to save the earth? Recent report shows that one Antartic ice shelf has quickly vanished and another is disappearing while other glaciers are melting even faster than expected. Climate change is to blame, according to the report from the U.S. Geological Survey and the British Antarctic Survey, available at pubs.usgs.gov/imap/2600/B.

The Wilkins ice shelf is breaking away to open ocean due to melting of ice bridge that serves as important barrier to hold remnant shelf structure in place. The consequence might be providing further change in region especially raising sea level and swamp low-lying areas.

This sounds like end of the day? Will many of the countries plan to implement any aggressive action to tackle the global climate change issue?

The Sale Of World's Largest Egg In Chelsea

The selling price for this world's largest egg laid by great flightless elephant bird of Madagascar almost 400 years ago is £5,000. The man in picture above is antiques dealer, John Shepherd. Mr Shepherd is a trained palaeontologist. He told the media that the Madagascan Elephant Bird was the only giant bird to exist with man and man caused its extinction. It was discovered during filming in Madagascar and the sale for this egg of more than 3ft will be held at the Chelsea Antique Fair in England in a week time.

In fact, decision for selling or not should be re-considered because the egg represents great social history. Perhaps putting it in museum for exhibition would be a better idea. Don't you think so?

900-Year-Old Little Mummy In Argentine Museum Stolen

This little mummy has been stolen! The picture is showed the 50-60 cm mummy made from a 2-year-old child about 900 years ago being inspected at a museum in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. It was found in the northern province of Salta 40 years ago and it was stolen from the museum on Feb. 15 2008. Oh poor, 2-year-old kid only!

"Granddaddy Of Kangaroos" Found In Aussie Fossil

The ever oldest and most complete fossil of a 25-million-year-old skeleton of a kangaroo has been found and this revealed of the facts that Nambaroo was bounded on all fours and having isolated teeth. The smaller size Nambaroo had fangs, perhaps would climb were mostly ate soft food like fruit and fungi as diet.

Japanese Self-mummificated Buddhist Monks

Check this out in Japan for two dozen of self-mummified Japanese monks which is also called as Sokushinbutsu, the followers of an ancient form of Buddhism called Shugendo.

They starving themselves over a period of 3-6 years included exercise daily and eating special diet of nuts or seeds, tree barks and roots and drink poisonous tea made from the sap of the Urushi tree which caused vomiting and a rapid loss of body fluids. They would be entombed alive in a stone room leaving only a small air tube which would be removed while the tomb would be sealed after the bell that was used for alerting other people of the monk was alive has stopped ringing.

Not all monks were successful, but those who did were raised to the status of Buddha, put on display, and tended to by their followers.

The Japanese government outlawed Sokushinbutsu in the late 19th century, though the practice continued into the 20th.

Cobra - New Species!!

The new deadly discovery of an unique world's largest species of spitting cobra, named Naja Ashei, 9-feet at a snakefarm in June 2004, Kenya but confirmed as new species in 2007. It posses unique DNA and its venom can kill at least 15 people!!! OMG...

Research published by Wolfgang Wuster, of the University of Wales, said a field visit confirmed the Naja Ashei is a new species.

Ancient Kangaroo Didn't Hop

Scientists from La Trobe University discovered a 25 million-year-old fossil of predecessor of kangaroo, nambaroo which galloped on all fours, had dog-like fangs and possibly climbed trees.

Evolution seems has turned kangaroos into larger, hopped and ate grass as the landscape became drier and grassy plains appeared about 10 to 15 million years ago.

Scorpion Bigger Than A Car!!!

Don't be shocked!! The biggest bug ever found from a 2.5-metre fossilized claw of an ancient sea scorpion was probably 8 feet long, as thick as a small car.

According to Discovery web site:

""We have known for some time that the fossil record yields monster millipedes, super-sized scorpions, colossal cockroaches, and jumbo dragonflies. But we never realized until now just how big some of these ancient creepy-crawlies were," he said."

This supports the theory that insects were much bigger in the Land Before Time. Those were the days for the insects, which had less competition from vertebrates, and ruled the earth with a disgusting claw.
